The ADM Solid Wood Starter Kit Review: Can You Get a Quality Student Violin at This Price?
With everything that you might need as a beginner violinist, this set is very convenient. This high-quality set comes in at a reasonable price and offers good value. The violin incorporates the same excellent craftsmanship ADM is famous for with good value for the money.
The violin feels terrific in your hands and can be ordered in the original red-brown finish. If you want your instrument to make a real statement, you can also order this in blue. Made from rosewood, spruce, and maple, this is an instrument that you’ll use for many years to come.
Is it the last violin you’ll ever buy? No, it is a useful instrument for beginners, but more advanced players will want to upgrade at some stage.
High-Quality Finish at an Affordable Price
This is made from wood, not composites. The neck is made of maple to ensure that it’s sturdy and durable. The fingerboard is made of rosewood – you’re going to wear out a long time before it will. The top has been hand-carved out of spruce.
Finding such quality at this price level is rare. The instrument itself is solid and well-made. You can see the difference in craftsmanship immediately.
What makes this deal even more attractive are the added freebies that are included. You have everything that you might need when starting.
The Blue Color Version is Stunning
This is something that doesn’t make much of a difference to the performance. If you like to play in style, though, this is a great option. The color is rich and makes an impact. It has a lustrous quality, and the finish seems to sparkle in the light.

There are those who are concerned that a painted violin produces a more muted tone. This was not what we found here, though. We found that it played true and clear. Overall, ADM has put a lot of thought into this model. It’s bound to turn heads.

Student Violin Sound Quality
The sound quality is surprisingly good, especially in this price range. Other models at this price point might produce a decent amount of sound, but it tends to be rather flat. This model produces a more lively, rich sound.
Would it outperform a Stradivarius? Not a chance, but it’s perfect for the beginner who’s starting. Once you get more practice and advance in your lessons, you’ll want something better.
If you’re just starting, or this is the last in a long list of hobbies your child enjoys, you’ll get a great idea of how things should sound.

ADM Violin Build Quality
The build quality is excellent for a model in this price range. In some of the cheaper models, you can easily see that corners have been cut. The cheaper models usually feel more fragile and might have a blotchy, uneven finish.
That’s not the case here. This set will take a fair amount of punishment and has been finished beautifully.
The case is not the strongest in the world, but it will handle a reasonable amount of abuse.

Adverse Features Summary
There’s a lot to love about this model, but there are also some things that we didn’t like.
To start with, we didn’t feel that we should have to set up the bridge and tune it ourselves. Now, we do understand that many musical instruments are sent out this way. We feel that something marketed as being for beginners should be playable out of the box
What are ADM Acoustic Violin Starter Kit Customers Saying? >>
The bows that are provided are okay, but not great. You’ll probably want to switch yours out for a more professional-level bow at a later stage.
We did think that they could have provided a bigger cake of rosin as well. What’s included will be enough to rosin the bow, but it won’t last long past that.

The Verdict: How Does the ADM Acoustic Violin Starter Kit Stand Up?
Overall, we found that the ADM Starter Violin Kit was a good deal. Even if you account for having to replace the bow, you’re still saving a bundle of money. It’s a great model to use when you’re starting. You can get a real feeling for the instrument without having to spend a fortune.
We felt that the set was good quality but would have also liked to see a shoulder rest included. Still, it’s a good deal for the beginner. Will you want to upgrade later? Most certainly, but at this price point, it’s not going to be a big set back.
